Delete your Hogaro account

This page explains how to delete your account in the Hogaro app and the data that goes with it. You don't need the app to do it.

How to request deletion

1. Send an email to support@hogaro.app with the subject “Delete my Hogaro account”.
2. Send it from the email address you use to sign in to Hogaro, so we know the request is yours. If you can no longer use that address, tell us which address the account uses and we will ask you to confirm another way before deleting anything.
3. We reply to confirm we have your request, delete the account, and email you when deletion is complete. This happens within one month at the latest.

Deleting your account from inside the app is coming in a later version. Until then, email is the way to request it.

What is deleted

• Your account: email address, display name, password, and Google sign-in link if you used one
• All your sign-in sessions, so every device is signed out
• Your food preferences
• Pantries where you are the only member, with all their food, shopping lists, purchases and history
• Invitations you sent that are still pending
• Your membership of every shared pantry

What happens to shared pantries

• A pantry you share with others is not deleted. It stays with the other members, who keep its food and shopping lists.
• If you were its last admin, the member with the most access becomes admin.
• Food you marked “Reserve for me” goes back to everyone.
• Your name is removed from the pantry's change history, which is kept for the remaining members.

If you'd rather delete a shared pantry for everyone, an admin can do that in the app before you delete your account.

What is kept, and for how long

• Database backups: deleted data can remain in our database provider's rolling recovery history for up to 6 hours, and in a safety copy taken before a database change for up to 7 days after that change. We never restore deleted accounts from backups.
• Service logs kept by our hosting provider for 7 days.
• Our email exchange about your deletion request, kept only as long as we need it to show that we handled the request.

What is not on our servers

Recipes, bookmarks, reminders and backup files you exported stay on your devices. We can't delete them for you. Uninstalling the app removes the app's own data from that device, and you can delete exported backup files yourself.

Delete some data without deleting your account

• Delete food, shopping items and lists in the app at any time.
• As an admin, delete a whole pantry in the app. Its contents, lists, history and invitations are erased immediately.
• Leave a shared pantry in the app. For any other request, email support@hogaro.app.
